-year-old monsignor william lynn of the archdiocese of philadelphia was founduilty of chd dangerment. prosecutors said he recommended reassigning priests accused of abuse to unsuspecting parishes when he served as secretary of the clergy from 1992 to 2004. the jury acquitted him on one count of conspiracy and another of endangerment. he could face up to seven years in prison. the jury could not agree on a verdict for his co-defendant, reverend james brennan. he was accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy in 1996. after the verdict, district attorney seth williams had this to say. >> what happened here s unspeakable. people knew that these were predators, who were much more concerned with the institution than the victims of sexual assault. they failed to recognize that the church is its people. the most important thing i think is that this monumental case in many ways will change the way business is done in many institutions, be they religious institutions, educational institutions, d camps, whater. whe people will not protect predators any longer. >> brown: we look at this case

monsignor william lynn of child endangerment. lynn becomes the first u.s. catholic official convicted not for abuse itself, but for covering up abuse claims. >>> firefighters in colorado are up against extreme fire conditions today as they battle flames in the high park fire. we heard from local officials a little bit earlier and they say it looks like the fire will keep growing all weekend long. so far 191 homes and more than 75,000 acres have been destroyed. >> floodwaters are receding in duluth, minnesota. people are finally getting a look at the true scope of the damage there. homes are surrounded by water and roads are simply being washed out. according to wcco tv the flooding has caused at least $100 million in damage. we're also monitoring the gulf of mexico where a weather system could turn into a tropical storm within the next tropical hours. bloomberg news is reporting oil rigs in the gulf are now being evacuated and shut down. according to bloomberg, the gulf provides 29% of u.s. oil production. >>> and now to the presidential race and the candidates' jam-packed schedules.

of child endangerment is in jail tonight. monsignor william lynn is the first u.s. church official convicted of a crime for how he handled sex abuse accusations. he was responsible for investigating accusations of child abuse for the archdiocese. prosecutors said that instead of warning parents and he would shuttle abusive priests to different parishes. meanwhile jerry sandusky lawyer is in hot water tonight. the judge in the child sex abuse case reprimanded the attorney for making off-camera remarks to reporters. am ndola apparently said he would be shocked if sandusky is acquitted. he is under a gag order. sandusky, the former penn state assistant football coach, is accused of molesting 10 boys. he has denied those allegations >> the video of a bullied bus monitor has struck a nerve with millions around the world. the boys who taunted the women are receiving death threats. threats to the boys and their families come in as sympathy and support pour in for a woman. today one of the fathers of the boys met her for a personal apology >> there is no excuse in we will get to the bottom
